Three Tips for Cleaning Up Your Job Search
Sometimes even looking for available career opportunities can seem overwhelming. We have three tips for helping you clean up your job hunt to make things easier from the beginning. Career Advancement expert Amanda Augustine offered tips to help spruce up your job search strategy.
1. Unclutter your resume.
Take a fresh look at your resume and make sure it’s the best it can be. Start by looking at each position. For each position, spell out exactly what experience you gained and in the most relevant order. If you see information that doesn’t add value, trim the fat.
2. Replenish your network
If you’ve lost touch with an important colleague, reach out to them. Weed out those that don’t support your goals. Start making new connections by joining professional associations or industry-specific groups. The larger and more meaningful your network, the greater chance you have at landing a new job. Don’t forget that we are in the digital age! Not all networking has to be done face-to-face. Break out that smartphone for easy networking on the go!
3. Refresh your online presence
Augustine suggests setting up Google Alerts for your name to easily monitor your brand, and clean up or delete outdated profiles. If you have accounts you don’t want to associate with your professional brand, increase the security settings to ensure everything is private. This helps guarantee that employers will see the same professionalism online that they see in person.
